Longrifle Series
Rifles of Colonial America Volumes I & II and Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle in Its Golden Age
THESE TWO VOLUMES comprise an extensive photographic study of American longrifles made in the colonial period, the Revolutionary period, and the post-Revolutionary years before the Federal Period. For each of the 139 rifles treated (in the 2 volumes) there are ten or more detailed photographs. A description of each rifle accompanies the illustrations, and many important dimensions are given. The text is concerned with the complex subject of the evolution of the baroque and rococo art that adorns it. VOLUME I: By George Shumway, Hardcover, 352 pages, 800 illustrations, reprinted in 2002. VOLUME II: By George Shumway, Hardcover, 288 pages, 650 illustrations
Mr. Kindig's thoughts concern American flintlock rifles as works of art. Many separate schools of gunsmithing from early Pennsylvania and Maryland are treated here. On the basis of information gained since this book was first published in 1960, Dr. George Shumway has provided many annotations and some additional illustrations. Hardcover, 561 pgs, 870 illustrations.
